Java Reef Reef Arches Per Kg
Ready-formed arches for caves without cutting or gluing rock. Java Reef Reef Arches is dry, hand-manufactured aquascaping rock pre-formed into natural arch and overhang shapes, sold per kilogram. Rather than building a cave from flat pieces and rock glue, Arches give you the overhang already formed. Made from natural, sustainable, reef-safe material, it carries no die-off risk, because it's never been alive.
Key features
- Pre-formed arch shapes – ready-made overhangs and swim-throughs, without needing to glue or epoxy separate pieces together to build a cave.
- Shade and shelter – arches create shaded, lower-light pockets that shade-tolerant corals and shy fish use as cover.
- Dry, not live – no curing cycle or die-off smell to manage before stocking, because it's never held living tissue.
- pH-neutral – won't leach phosphate or nitrate into the water column, and comes free of hitchhiking parasites.
- Sold per kilogram – order the quantity that matches how many arch features you're adding.

How much do I need?
Arches are a feature piece rather than a volume-filler, so most tanks only need one to two kilograms' worth to add one or two arch features, set into or on top of whatever Base and Branching rock forms the rest of the structure. Because pieces are natural and irregular, individual arches vary in size and weight – order a little extra if you want a specific span or clearance underneath.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for adding caves, swim-throughs and shaded pockets without the extra step of gluing rock together, and for housing shy or cave-dwelling fish and shade-tolerant corals placed underneath.
- Not intended as the sole structural base of a tall aquascape – arches are a feature piece, generally set on top of or into a Base Rock footprint rather than used to build a tank's entire structure from the substrate up.
Which grade do I need?
| Grade | Shape | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Base Rock | Irregular structural chunks | The main footprint and load-bearing base of the aquascape |
| Branching Reef Rock | Branch- and finger-like pieces | Open, coral-friendly structures with plenty of flow-through gaps |
| Reef Arches | Natural arch and overhang formations | Caves, swim-throughs and shaded overhangs |
| Reef Plates | Flat, shelf-like pieces | Ledges, terracing and shallow coral placement |
Care and maintenance
No ongoing maintenance beyond normal aquascape care. Unlike live rock, there's no die-off period to watch for after adding it to the tank.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the standard consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law, in addition to any manufacturer assurance. Sold by weight, so freight cost scales with the kilograms ordered; arches ship as whole pieces, so weight per order can be uneven.
Common questions
Can I combine two arches for a bigger swim-through?
Yes – arches can be stacked or placed side by side to create larger overhangs, secured into the surrounding rockwork the same way any hardscape piece is.
Do arches need extra support to stay stable?
As with any overhanging aquascape piece, seat arches securely into the surrounding Base Rock or substrate rather than balancing them unsupported.
Will it raise my phosphate or nitrate?
The manufacturer states the material is pH-neutral and doesn't leach phosphate or nitrate.
Does it need curing before I add it to my tank?
No – because it's never held living tissue, there's no die-off smell or ammonia spike to manage. A quick rinse to clear handling dust is enough.
How much of an arch will one kilogram get me?
It depends on the individual piece – arches are natural, irregular shapes, so weight per arch varies. Order a couple of kilograms if you want a specific span or want to choose between a few pieces.
