Java Reef Reef Plates Per Kg

Dry, manufactured reef rock that skips the live-rock cure cycle. Java Reef Reef Plates are pH-neutral, reef-safe aquascaping rock made in a flat, shelf-like plate form for building ledges, overhangs and open reef structures. Sold per kilogram, so you buy exactly the weight your aquascape needs.

Key features
  • Plate shape – flat, naturally varied pieces suited to ledges, overhangs and open-structure aquascapes rather than solid walls.
  • Manufactured, not harvested – made from reef-safe materials rather than taken from a natural reef.
  • pH neutral – the manufacturer states it will not leach phosphates or nitrates into the water column.
  • Porous surface – micro and macro pores give beneficial bacteria and coralline algae somewhere to colonise.
  • Lightweight – easier to handle and to build tall, stable structures than comparably sized natural rock.
Specifications
Shape Plate – flat, ledge-forming pieces
Material Manufactured, reef-safe, pH-neutral rock (not natural harvested reef rock)
Sold as Per kilogram
Colour Natural stone tones; each piece varies
Suitability Marine and reef aquariums
Is this live rock?

No. This is dry, inert aquascaping rock – it is not sold with any live biological material on it, so there is no die-off smell and no curing period to wait out before it's safe to add livestock. Because it's manufactured rather than harvested, it also arrives free of hitchhiking pests.

Rinse pieces under fresh water before placing them in the tank to remove any loose dust from handling and transit. The rock will colonise naturally with coralline algae and beneficial bacteria over the following weeks once it's in a running reef system – that's a normal maturing process, not a cure cycle you need to manage.

How much do I need?

Java Reef Rock doesn't publish a fixed kilograms-per-litre figure, because coverage depends heavily on how open or dense you build your aquascape – a scattered plate structure uses far less weight than a solid wall over the same footprint. Where possible, order your full estimated weight in one purchase so pieces come from the same batch, dry-fit the layout outside the tank first, and add more per kilogram if you need extra height or coverage.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for marine and reef aquascaping, sump rockscaping, and mixed displays with fish, coral and invertebrates. Not suitable as a substitute for calcium reactor media or as a calcium/alkalinity dosing product – it's an aquascaping material, not a water-chemistry additive.

Goes well with
  • Java Reef Base Rock – for building the solid understructure beneath a plate arrangement.
  • Java Reef Arches – to open up swim-through spaces in the same aquascape.
  • Reef-safe aquascaping epoxy or rock glue – to pin plates securely before adding sand.
Warranty and delivery

Because each piece is naturally irregular, the rock you receive will vary in exact shape from the product photo – that's normal for aquascaping stone sold per kilogram, not a fault. Contact us if your order arrives broken smaller than ordered in transit.

Common questions

Do I need to cure Java Reef Rock before adding fish?

No. It's dry, inert rock with no biological die-off, so it doesn't need a curing period the way real live rock does. A rinse to remove handling dust is enough.

Will it raise my pH or alkalinity?

The manufacturer states it's pH neutral and won't leach phosphates or nitrates, so it shouldn't shift your water chemistry on its own.

Can I mix plates with other Java Reef Rock shapes?

Yes – plates, base rock, branching and arches are designed to combine into one aquascape.

How is the weight per kilogram measured?

You're charged for the actual weight of rock supplied, so the number and size of pieces in a given order will vary.
