Red Sea Reefer DC Skimmer 600 (W/O Controller)

Give a mid-size reef the skimming capacity it actually needs. The Red Sea REEFER DC Skimmer 600 sits in the middle of Red Sea's three-size DC skimmer range, running a Sicce PSK DC-1200 pump in a 56 cm body for reefs that have outgrown an entry-level skimmer. Like the rest of the range it's sold without a controller – there's no on/off switch or speed dial on the skimmer itself, and it needs Red Sea's ReefRun Dual Controller, bought separately, to run.

Key features
  • Sicce PSK DC-1200 pump – the same DC platform used across the whole REEFER skimmer range, tuned per body size.
  • Rated across the full bioload range – from 1800 L on a lightly stocked fish-only system down to 600 L on a heavily stocked SPS reef.
  • 56 cm body – a step up from the 300 for systems that need more reaction chamber volume.
  • 25 W draw moving up to 1500 L/h of water and 750 L/h of air through the reaction chamber.
  • Recommends 18–20 cm of water depth in the sump chamber for correct performance.
Rated volume by bioload

Red Sea rates the DC skimmer range at three stocking levels, because a heavily stocked SPS reef strips far less volume per skimmer than a lightly stocked fish-only tank on the same body.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for saltwater reef and marine fish-only systems within the rated bioload range above, run in a sump with 18–20 cm of usable water depth. Not suitable for freshwater systems – foam fractionation only works in saltwater. Not a fit if you don't already own, or aren't budgeting for, a ReefRun Dual Controller, since the skimmer has no standalone operation.

Goes well with

The Red Sea ReefRun Dual Controller is the part that makes this skimmer run, so treat it as part of the purchase rather than an accessory.

Warranty and delivery

Red Sea backs this skimmer with a manufacturer's warranty in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Ask our team to confirm the current documented warranty term for this model at the time of purchase.

Common questions

Can I run the REEFER DC Skimmer 600 without a controller?

No. It's supplied without one and has no built-in on/off or speed control – Red Sea's ReefRun Dual Controller, sold separately, is required for it to operate.

What size tank is the REEFER DC Skimmer 600 rated for?

Red Sea rates it at 1800 L for a lightly stocked fish-only tank, 1200 L for a mixed reef, and 600 L for a heavily stocked SPS-dominant reef.

Is the 600 a big step up from the 300?

Yes – body height goes from 53 cm to 56 cm and rated capacity roughly doubles at every bioload level, so it's worth choosing on stocking plans rather than tank size alone.

How much water depth does my sump need?

Red Sea recommends 18–20 cm of usable water depth in the skimmer chamber for it to sit and skim correctly.

What pump does it use?

A Sicce PSK DC-1200 DC pump, drawing 25 W and moving up to 1500 L/h of water and 750 L/h of air through the skimmer body.
