Flipper DeepSee Magnified Viewer up to 16mm Glass

A magnetic magnifying viewer that holds itself to the glass, rated to 16 mm thick. The Flipper DeepSee is a 4 in optical-grade lens on a rare earth magnet mount, held against the outside of the tank while a second magnet on the inside keeps it in place. It brings fish, coral and fine detail into close focus from roughly 8 to 20 cm away, on glass or acrylic up to 16 mm (5/8 in) thick, in freshwater, marine or terrarium setups.

Key features
  • Rated to 16 mm (5/8 in) glass or acrylic – check your pane thickness before ordering.
  • 4 in optical-grade lens – magnifies enough to check coral polyps, fish gill and fin detail, or early signs of disease.
  • Magnetic mount – moves anywhere on the pane without suction cups or hands in the water.
  • Focal range of roughly 8 to 20 cm – slide the viewer along the glass rather than pressing it flush to bring the subject into focus.
  • Works on glass, acrylic, freshwater, marine and terrarium setups – one viewer across every tank in the house.

Will it fit my tank?

Measure the glass or acrylic thickness where you plan to view – the DeepSee holds through up to 16 mm (5/8 in). That covers the great majority of tanks under around 300 L; if you're running thicker glass on a large reef system, check before ordering.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for: checking coral polyp extension, inspecting fish for early signs of disease or parasites, and close-up viewing or photography through glass or acrylic up to 16 mm, in aquariums or terrariums.

Not suitable for: panes thicker than 16 mm, where the magnetic hold becomes unreliable. Not a replacement for a proper macro camera lens if you need publication-quality photography.

What's included
  • 1x Flipper DeepSee magnetic viewer (outer lens unit and inner magnet)
Care and maintenance

Rinse salt residue off the outer lens housing after use in marine tanks. Keep the lens surface dry and free of scratches by storing it away from grit rather than laying it lens-down on a bench.

Safety

The inner and outer magnets are strong enough to pinch skin if brought together directly, and can damage pacemakers, credit cards and hard drives at close range. Separate them by sliding rather than pulling straight apart.

Common questions

How close does the DeepSee need to be to focus?

Roughly 8 to 20 cm from the glass. Slide it along the pane rather than pressing it flat to bring your subject into focus.

Does it work on acrylic tanks?

Yes, it's rated for glass or acrylic up to 16 mm (5/8 in) thick.

Can I use it in a terrarium?

Yes, the same magnetic mount and lens work through terrarium glass or acrylic within the 16 mm rating.

Will it scratch my tank?

Grit trapped between the magnet and the glass can scratch the pane, the same risk as any magnetic tool. Wipe the pane before use if you've just been scrubbing algae.

Is 16 mm enough for a large reef tank?

It covers most tanks under around 300 L. For thicker glass on a larger system, check your pane thickness before ordering – this viewer is not rated beyond 16 mm.
