Deepsee Clear Max Viewer with 5" Lens
A 5 inch magnetic lens that works through glass or acrylic up to 20 mm thick. The Flipper DeepSee Clear Max is a magnified aquarium viewer that clips to the outside of the tank on a rare-earth magnet, with a matching interior lens holding it in place. It brings the glass in close – a focal range of roughly 3 to 12 in (7.5 to 30 cm) – for checking coral polyps, spotting early signs of disease or pests, and for close-up aquarium photography, without an alga scraper's magnet strength dragging across the glass at the wrong moment.
Key features
- 5 in optical-grade lens – a wide viewing portal with no centre-dot obstruction, for a clear, magnified view rather than a keyhole.
- Works through glass or acrylic up to 20 mm (3/4 in) – the single most important spec on this product. Confirm your tank wall thickness before buying; a magnet rated past its glass thickness won't hold, and one used on thinner glass than it's rated for is simply stronger than it needs to be.
- Rare-earth magnetic mount – a strong exterior-interior magnet pair that moves freely around the tank, so you can view from any spot rather than a fixed viewing window.
- Crystal-clear acrylic construction – no tint or distortion between you and the animal.
- Focal range of approximately 3 to 12 in – close enough for coral polyp detail, far enough back to frame a whole fish.
- Suits glass or acrylic, fresh or marine – one viewer works across reef, freshwater and planted tanks alike.

What's included
The interior viewer lens (5 in) and its matching exterior mounting magnet, sold as one unit.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: reef tanks for checking coral colour and polyp extension, freshwater and planted tanks for close inspection of fish and plants, and anyone doing macro aquarium photography through the glass.
Not suitable for: tank walls thicker than 20 mm – the magnetic pair won't hold reliably past that thickness, so measure your glass or acrylic before ordering. It is a viewing tool, not a cleaning magnet, so it will not scrub algae from the glass.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the lens in tank water before use if it's been stored dry, and wipe both faces before viewing so dust doesn't sit between the lens and the glass. Store away from other strong magnets, since rare-earth magnets can chip if they snap together directly.
Goes well with
- Flipper DeepSee Orange Filter Lens – a press-fit accessory lens that blocks blue light to reveal true coral fluorescence under reef lighting.
Warranty and delivery
Flipper backs the DeepSee viewer with a 12-month limited warranty covering defects in material and workmanship, in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which are not limited by the manufacturer's term. Ships as standard freight.
Common questions
What's the maximum glass thickness this works through?
20 mm (3/4 in). That is the figure to check before buying – a magnetic viewer rated for thinner glass than yours simply won't hold together through the wall.
Does it work on acrylic tanks?
Yes. The DeepSee Clear Max is rated safe for both glass and acrylic up to 20 mm thick.
Does it magnify, or just let me see closer?
Both. It's an optical-grade magnifying lens, so it enlarges what you're looking at as well as letting you get physically closer to the glass than your eye could focus comfortably on its own.
Can I use it for photography?
Yes – it's one of the main uses buyers report, since the flat, distortion-free acrylic and close focal range suit a phone or camera lens held against it.
Is this the same as a Flipper cleaning magnet?
No. Flipper also makes magnetic algae-cleaning tools, but the DeepSee range is a viewer only – it has no scraper pad and isn't designed to clean the glass.
