Deepsee Clear Viewer with 4" Lens

A 4 inch magnetic lens that magnifies through glass or acrylic up to 16 mm thick. The Flipper DeepSee Clear Viewer clips to the outside of the tank on a rare-earth magnet, with a matching interior lens held in place from within. It brings the glass in close - a focal range of roughly 3 to 8 in (7.5 to 20 cm) - for checking coral polyp extension, spotting early signs of disease or pests, and close-up aquarium photography, without an algae scraper's magnet strength dragging across the glass at the wrong moment.

Key features
  • 4 in optical-grade lens - a wide viewing portal with no centre obstruction, for a clear, magnified view rather than a keyhole.
  • Works through glass or acrylic up to 16 mm (5/8 in) - the single most important spec on this product. Measure your tank wall before buying; a magnet rated past its glass thickness won't hold reliably.
  • Rare-earth magnetic mount - a strong exterior-interior magnet pair that moves freely around the tank, so you can view from any spot rather than a fixed window.
  • Crystal-clear acrylic construction - no tint or distortion between you and the animal.
  • Focal range of approximately 3 to 8 in (7.5-20 cm) - close enough for coral polyp detail, far enough back to frame a whole fish.
  • Suits glass or acrylic, fresh or marine - one viewer works across reef, freshwater and planted tanks, and dry terrariums.

Which DeepSee size do I need?
Model Lens size Max glass/acrylic Best for
DeepSee Nano 3 in Rated for nano and pico tank walls Small reef and nano tanks where a compact viewer suits the scale
DeepSee Clear (this listing) 4 in 16 mm The general-purpose size for most standard aquariums
DeepSee Clear Max 5 in 20 mm Larger display tanks with thicker glass, or buyers who want the widest possible view

Check your glass or acrylic thickness against the maximum rating before choosing - a viewer rated below your tank wall simply won't hold together through the glass.

What's included

The 4 in interior viewer lens and its matching exterior mounting magnet, sold as one unit.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for: reef tanks for checking coral colour and polyp extension, freshwater and planted tanks for close inspection of fish and plants, terrariums, and anyone doing macro aquarium photography through the glass.

Not suitable for: tank walls thicker than 16 mm - step up to the DeepSee Clear Max for glass or acrylic up to 20 mm. It is a viewing tool, not a cleaning magnet, so it will not scrub algae from the glass.

Care and maintenance

Rinse the lens in tank water before use if it's been stored dry, and wipe both faces before viewing so dust doesn't sit between the lens and the glass. Store away from other strong magnets, since rare-earth magnets can chip if they snap together directly.

Warranty and delivery

Common questions

What's the maximum glass thickness this works through?

16 mm (5/8 in). That is the figure to check before buying - a magnetic viewer rated for thinner glass than yours simply won't hold together through the wall.

Does it work on acrylic tanks?

Yes. The DeepSee Clear 4 in is rated safe for both glass and acrylic up to 16 mm thick.

Does it magnify, or just let me see closer?

Both. It's an optical-grade magnifying lens, so it enlarges what you're looking at as well as letting you get physically closer to the glass than your eye could focus comfortably on its own.

Can I use it for photography?

Yes - the flat, distortion-free acrylic and close focal range suit a phone or camera lens held against it.

What's the difference between this and the DeepSee Clear Max?

Lens size and glass rating. This 4 in viewer works through glass or acrylic up to 16 mm; the 5 in Max works through up to 20 mm and shows a wider view. Choose based on your tank wall thickness first, viewing area second.
