Life Rock Reef Tree Kit
A branching reef centrepiece that locks together on a rod, no cement required. CaribSea Life Rock Reef Tree Kit is a pre-shaped aquascaping system built from several pieces of dry aragonite Life Rock, predrilled and threaded onto a stabilising rod so the whole structure locks together in minutes. It typically builds out to around 50 x 40 x 30 cm, though the exact footprint depends on how you arrange the pieces. Like all Life Rock, it is dry-shipped with no curing period and no die-off smell to work through.
Key features
- Rod-assembled, no cement needed - the pieces are predrilled and thread onto a central stabilising rod, so you get a self-supporting branching structure without mortar or glue.
- Open, vertical architecture - built for height and negative space rather than a solid pile, which improves flow around the structure and gives corals more distinct placement zones by light and current.
- Aragonite base rock - genuine reef mineral content, not moulded cement.
- Pre-coated coralline look - an artificial texture that mimics natural coralline algae from day one, while real coralline fills in as the tank matures.
- No curing required - nothing organic died to make this rock, so there is no ammonia spike to wait out before aquascaping.
- Zero wild-collection risk - manufactured, not reef-harvested, so it will not arrive carrying aiptasia, bristleworms or other live-rock hitchhikers.
What's included, and what you'll still need
Included: several branching Life Rock pieces, predrilled to accept the rod; one stabilising rod to join them.
You'll still need: sand or substrate for the base layer, which is not included; a permanent aquascaping mortar or rock-bonding putty if you want the assembled structure fixed in place rather than resting free (recommended in a tank with large, boisterous fish); and your own tank, stand and livestock.

Which Life Rock format do I need?
| Product | Format | Pack | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Life Rock Original | Loose, assorted base pieces | 40 lb (18 kg) box | Building the main footprint of a reef aquascape from scratch |
| Life Rock Shapes | Loose arches, rings and tunnels | 20 lb (9 kg) box | Adding open swim-throughs to a scape you are building yourself |

| Life Rock Reef Tree Arches Kit | Pre-shaped kit built around open arches, on a rod | 4 pieces | The Reef Tree look, weighted toward tunnels and overhangs |
| Life Rock Reef Tree Extension Kit | Add-on pieces plus a short rod | 2 pieces | Adding height or width to a Reef Tree Kit or Arches Kit you already own |
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: reef keepers who want a ready-made vertical centrepiece without building one from loose rock; tanks where maximising open swim space and flow around the aquascape matters as much as the rock footprint; anyone who wants an established coralline look from day one.
Not suitable for: freshwater tanks - this is a marine reef product. If you want more height or width later, pair it with a Life Rock Reef Tree Extension Kit rather than trying to extend it with loose Life Rock Original, which is not predrilled to fit the rod.
Setting it up
- Rinse the pieces under tap water to clear shipping dust.
- Thread the pieces onto the stabilising rod outside the tank and test the arrangement before committing.
- Stand the finished structure directly on the glass base, not on top of loose sand, so it cannot topple if disturbed.
- If the tank holds large or boisterous fish, add aquascaping mortar at the base for a permanent bond before stocking.
Goes well with
- CaribSea Life Rock Reef Tree Extension Kit - adds height or width to this kit using the same rod system.
- CaribSea Life Rock Shapes - loose arches and tunnels to blend the base of the Reef Tree into the surrounding aquascape.
- CaribSea Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand - an aragonite sand bed styled to sit underneath.
Warranty and delivery
CaribSea does not publish a warranty term on its rock products. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply regardless, and are not limited by anything the manufacturer does or does not offer.
Rock pieces are handmade and can be fragile in transit - inspect the box on arrival and photograph any breakage before use.
Common questions
Do I need cement to assemble the Reef Tree Kit?
No. The pieces are predrilled and lock together on the included stabilising rod. Cement or aquascaping mortar is optional, and worth adding only if you want the structure permanently fixed against a boisterous fish or strong flow.
Does it need to be cured before livestock goes in?
No. Life Rock is manufactured, not reef-harvested, so there is no organic die-off to cure out. A rinse to clear shipping dust is the only preparation needed.
Can I make it taller after I've set it up?
Yes, with a Life Rock Reef Tree Extension Kit, which is built to the same rod system. Loose Life Rock Original pieces are not predrilled and won't thread onto the rod.
Will it work in a freshwater tank?
No. It is coated and marketed as a marine reef product, and its aragonite base raises pH and hardness in a way that does not suit most freshwater setups.
How exact is the assembled size?
The 50 x 40 x 30 cm figure is a typical build. Because the pieces are natural and irregular and the arrangement is up to you, your finished footprint will vary.
