Red Sea Reef LED G2 170

170 W flagship reef LED, built for depth and demanding SPS. The Red Sea ReefLED G2 170 is the larger fixture in Red Sea's second-generation ReefLED range, aimed at deep displays and SPS-dominant systems that need light to still be doing something meaningful 60–80 cm down. It runs the same coral-tuned 10,000K–23,000K spectrum as the G2 115, through the same ReefBeat app, in a fixture built to push more of that light further into the water column.

Key features
  • 170 W second-generation LED array – larger optics at 18 × 16 × 6.4 cm than the G2 115, built for deeper penetration rather than just a brighter surface reading.
  • Coral-tuned spectrum – enhanced violet and UV wavelengths plus a boosted 470 nm blue, across 10,000K to 23,000K.
  • Rated to 80 cm water depth – meaningfully deeper coverage than the 60 cm the G2 115 is built around.
  • ReefBeat app control – WiFi scheduling with sunrise, sunset, moon phases and an acclimation mode for introducing it over an established reef.
  • Five manual presets – including UV-only and a coral-photography mode.
  • Mounting sold separately – wire suspension, mounting arm and clip-on visor are all optional extras.

Voltage, IP rating and cable length aren't published on Red Sea's specification pages for this fixture – rather than guess, check the box or manual for those if they matter to your install.

Performance at depth – PAR

Red Sea's own measurement, taken 31 cm above the centre of an 80 × 80 × 80 cm test tank, gives three points on the fixture's PAR curve:

Depth PAR (µmol/m²/s)
Surface (0 cm) 550
50 cm 160
80 cm 130

Holding 130 µmol/m²/s at 80 cm is the point of the 170 – the G2 115 is measured over a shallower 60 cm tank and isn't rated for that depth at all. Red Sea's manual publishes these three points (surface, 50 cm and 80 cm) but not a full continuous curve, so we're showing what it does publish rather than interpolating further.

Which ReefLED do I need?
Model Wattage Surface PAR Best for
ReefLED G2 115 115 W 500 µmol/m²/s Standard reef displays, up to around 60 cm deep
ReefLED G2 170 170 W 550 µmol/m²/s Large or deep displays to 80 cm, demanding SPS

If the tank is a standard 45–60 cm reef display, the 115 does the job for less power draw. The 170 earns its place on anything deeper, or where SPS stocked low in the tank needs light that hasn't fallen away to nothing by the time it gets there.

What's included / not included
  • Included: ReefLED G2 170 fixture, power supply.
  • Not included: mounting arm, wire hanging kit and clip-on visor are all sold separately – this is the light only.
Setup and use

Connect over WiFi through the ReefBeat app for a scheduled sunrise, sunset and moon-phase cycle, or run one of the five manual presets directly on the unit. On an established reef, start in the app's acclimation mode rather than switching straight to a full-intensity target schedule – the G2 170 has real output, and corals need time to adjust to it.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: large, deep or SPS-dominant reef displays up to around 80 cm, run singly on a nano-to-medium footprint or paired across a wider tank.
  • Not suitable for: freshwater planted tanks. Shallow standard-depth reef displays are usually better served by the smaller G2 115 – more light than the tank needs is wasted running cost, not a benefit.
Warranty and delivery

Red Sea's own ReefLED G2 manual states a 24-month manufacturer warranty from the date of original purchase, in addition to the consumer guarantees available under Australian Consumer Law. Mains-powered; runs on standard 240 V AU supply via the included power adaptor. Ships as a standard parcel item.

Goes well with
  • Red Sea ReefLED G2 115 – for pairing a second, lighter-output fixture across a wider tank instead of doubling up on 170s.
  • A second ReefLED G2 170, for wide tanks needing full-depth coverage across more than one fixture's spread.
Common questions

How deep will this actually light properly?

Red Sea's measurement shows 130 µmol/m²/s still reaching 80 cm down – genuinely usable PAR for SPS at that depth, not just a bright surface reading.

Should I buy the 170 instead of the 115 "to be safe"?

Only if the tank is genuinely deep or SPS-dominant. On a standard 45–60 cm display the 115 delivers comparable surface PAR for less power, and the 170's extra output at depth goes to waste in a shallower tank.

Does it come with a mounting arm?

No. The fixture ships with its power supply only; mounting arms, hanging kits and the clip-on visor are sold separately.

Can two G2 170s run on one wide tank?

Yes – pairing fixtures is the standard way to cover a tank wider than one unit's spread, controlled together through the ReefBeat app.

What's the maximum depth this is rated for?

Red Sea's manual test measurement covers an 80 cm deep test tank; that's the practical depth ceiling the fixture is built and measured against.
