Vectra Barb & Screen Kit
The screen is the part that actually saves a Vectra pump – not the barb fitting. This genuine EcoTech Marine kit supplies the intake screen and hose barb fittings for the Vectra S2, M2 and L2 centrifugal pump range, in the size matched to your pump. The barbs let you run flexible tubing instead of rigid PVC on the pump's intake and output; the intake screen keeps fish, snails and larger debris out of the impeller chamber, which is what actually causes a Vectra to fail early.
Key features
- Genuine EcoTech Marine fitting – sized for the S2, M2 or L2 Vectra generation, not a universal barb.
- Intake screen protects the impeller – blocks fish, snails and larger debris from reaching the impeller chamber, the most common cause of an early Vectra failure.
- Press-fit barbs, no adhesive – the plastic barbs attach directly to the pump without solvent cement, so flexible vinyl tubing press-fits straight on as an alternative to rigid PVC plumbing.
- Three components per kit – one intake barb, one output barb, one intake screen.
Specifications
| Size | Inlet fitting | Outlet fitting |
|---|---|---|
| S2 | 1" inlet | 0.75" outlet |
| M2 | 1.25" inlet | 1" outlet |
| L2 | 1.5" inlet | 1.25" outlet |
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for EcoTech Marine Vectra S2, M2 and L2 centrifugal pumps – order the kit matching your pump's size. Not suitable for Gen 1 Vectra pumps (S1, M1, L1), which use a different, incompatible barb and screen kit – see the Gen 1 kit for those models.
What's included
One intake barb, one output barb and one intake screen, sized for the variant selected. No pump, tubing or PVC cement included.
Care and maintenance
How do I fit the intake screen?
The intake screen pulls directly into the pump's intake – no adhesive is needed. Remove the red o-ring before installing the screen; leaving it in place will stop the screen seating correctly.
Do the barbs need glue?
No – the plastic barbs attach directly to the pump body without adhesive, and flexible vinyl tubing then press-fits onto the barb.
Compatibility, spares and supersession
Fits Vectra S2, M2 and L2 pumps only. Vectra Gen 1 (S1, M1, L1) uses a separate barb and screen kit with different fitting sizes – check which generation pump you have before ordering.
Warranty and delivery
Spare part, sold as-is. Standard delivery Australia-wide.
Common questions
Why does my Vectra need an intake screen?
An unscreened intake will pull in anything small enough to fit – fish, snails, shrimp, or loose gravel – and damage the impeller. The screen is inexpensive insurance against a much more expensive repair.
Can I use rigid PVC instead of the barb fittings?
Yes – the barb fitting is there for flexible tubing. If you're plumbing in rigid PVC, you may not need the barb, but the intake screen is still worth fitting regardless.
Which size do I need?
Match the kit to your pump: S2, M2 or L2. The inlet and outlet sizes differ between them, so a kit for the wrong size won't fit.
