Zoo Med Betta Plant Philo
A broad-leafed plastic philodendron that adds structure and shade. The Zoo Med Betta Plant Philo (BP-20) is a naturalistic plastic plant made for betta bowls and nano tanks. Its broader leaves sit slightly higher than a single-leaf design, creating a shaded pocket a betta can retreat to. It attaches to the glass with a built-in suction cup and needs no substrate or lighting to stay looking green.
Key features
- Broad-leaf coverage - the philodendron-style leaves create more shade and cover than a single-leaf plant of the same footprint.
- Suction-cup mount - sticks directly to the glass, no gravel anchor needed.
- Colourfast plastic - moulded green plastic that does not yellow or die back like a live plant.
- No upkeep - no dosing, trimming or CO2, just an occasional rinse.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for betta bowls, nano tanks and community tanks wanting more visual cover than a single-leaf plant provides. Not a substitute for a live, oxygenating plant, and not intended as a filter media anchor or for tanks with fish known to chew rigid plastic decor.
Care and maintenance
Rinse under lukewarm water when algae or biofilm builds up between the leaves. Zoo Med does not publish a fin-safety rating for this range. It is rigid moulded plastic rather than soft silk, so owners of long-finned betta varieties should check the leaf edges by hand before adding it to the tank.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Zoo Med's standard warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a standard parcel; no cold chain or special handling needed.
Common questions
How is this different to the Maple Leaf or Salvia plant?
The leaf shape and coverage differ. The Philo has broader philodendron-style leaves that create a shadier pocket, where the Maple Leaf and Salvia give a more open, single or clustered leaf profile.
Does it need substrate to stay in place?
No. The built-in suction cup anchors to glass, so it works in a bare bowl with no gravel.
Can I combine it with other Zoo Med Betta Plants?
Yes. Several can be suction-cupped around one bowl or nano tank to build up more cover without needing substrate.
Is it safe for long-finned betta varieties?
Zoo Med does not publish a fin-safety rating for this item. Check the moulded leaf edges by hand before adding it to a tank with a long-finned betta.
