Flipper Edge 2-in-1 Floating Magnetic Algae Cleaner
A floating magnetic cleaner sold in two sizes, rated to 12 mm or 25 mm of glass or acrylic. The Flipper Edge 2-in-1 pairs a magnetic scrubbing pad with a reversible scraper blade in the one handle, so you flip between the two without swapping tools. The Standard size works through glass or acrylic up to 12 mm (1/2 in) thick; the Max steps up to 25 mm (1 in) for larger display tanks. Both float free of the handle if the magnetic link breaks, and both ship with 316 stainless steel blades for glass and acrylic-safe plastic blades for acrylic.
Key features
- Two sizes, one design – Standard rated to 12 mm (1/2 in), Max rated to 25 mm (1 in). Check your glass thickness before choosing.
- Floats if separated – the inner pad rises to the surface instead of dropping onto the substrate.
- Flip-to-scrape handle – rotate the handle to switch between the scrubbing pad and the blade.
- Two blade types included on both sizes – 316 stainless steel for glass, acrylic-safe plastic for acrylic, flat and serrated edges, reversible.
- Rare earth magnets – hold through the full rated thickness of each size without heavy pressure.

Will it fit my tank?
Measure the actual glass or acrylic thickness at the point you'll be cleaning. Standard covers most tanks up to roughly 200 L; once a display tank moves into 15 mm-plus glass – common on larger reef systems and big freshwater builds – step up to the Max.
Can I use the Standard on 15 mm glass?
No. Above 12 mm the magnetic link is unreliable and the inner pad can slip. Use the Max, rated to 25 mm, instead.
Which one do I need?
| Cleaner | Max thickness | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Edge 2-in-1 Standard | 12 mm (1/2 in) | Most tanks up to roughly 200 L |
| Edge 2-in-1 Max | 25 mm (1 in) | Thicker glass on larger display and reef tanks |
| Flipper Edge (separate listing) | 12 mm (1/2 in) | Same rating as Standard, different packaging |
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: glass and acrylic aquariums, freshwater or marine. Standard for panes up to 12 mm, Max for panes up to 25 mm.
Not suitable for: panes thicker than the rated size for either variant – check both the Standard and Max limits before ordering the wrong one. Not designed for scraping rockwork or substrate.
What's included
- 1x Flipper Edge 2-in-1 cleaner in your chosen size
- 2x reversible 316 stainless steel blades (flat and serrated)
- 2x reversible acrylic-safe plastic blades (flat and serrated)
Care and maintenance
Rinse after use to keep salt and algae out of the hinge. Replace blades every 3 to 6 months, or sooner if they've started skating over algae instead of lifting it.
Safety
Rare earth magnets can pinch skin if the two halves come together directly – keep fingers clear when placing or removing the cleaner, especially on the Max size where the magnets are stronger. Keep away from pacemakers and other magnet-sensitive devices.
Goes well with
- Flipper DeepSee Magnified Viewer – inspect what you've just cleaned off.
- Flipper Cleaning Mitt 2pk – for the outside of the glass.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Flipper's manufacturer warranty in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a small parcel item on standard freight; the Max is heavier due to its larger magnets but still ships standard.
Common questions
What's the difference between Standard and Max?
Maximum glass or acrylic thickness. Standard works to 12 mm (1/2 in); Max works to 25 mm (1 in). The blade set and floating design are the same on both.
Does either size work on acrylic?
Yes, both include acrylic-safe plastic blades alongside the stainless steel blades, so the same cleaner handles glass and acrylic tanks.
What happens if I buy Standard for glass over 12 mm?
The magnetic hold won't be reliable and the inner pad is likely to slip off. Choose the Max instead for anything above 12 mm.
How do I switch between scrubbing and scraping?
Rotate the handle – one position presents the pad, the other the blade.
Is there a version rated above 25 mm?
Not in this range. The Max at 25 mm (1 in) is the thickest Flipper Edge we stock; for anything beyond that, contact us before ordering.
