Flipper Platinum Scraper
A long-handled scraper that works on glass or acrylic at any thickness. The Flipper Platinum Scraper is a hand-held algae scraper on a solid fibreglass handle, sold in three lengths - Nano, 18" and 28" - to reach across different tank sizes. Unlike a magnetic cleaner it doesn't work through the glass, so there is no thickness limit to worry about; the safety question here is which blade is fitted, not how thick the pane is.
Key features
- No glass thickness limit - because the blade contacts the glass directly rather than through a magnet, it works on panes a floating cleaner can't reach through.
- Card-slot blade design - the handle takes a plastic card (a spare gift card or hotel key works) as a cheap, acrylic-safe scraping edge.
- Dedicated stainless steel blade available - sold separately, for glass tanks only; do not fit it on acrylic.
- Solid fibreglass handle - rigid enough to scrape firmly without flexing, even at the 28" length.
- Three lengths - Nano, 18" and 28", so the reach matches the tank rather than the other way around.

Which length do I need?
Nano suits nano and small tanks where a full-length handle is unwieldy. The 18" handle covers most standard aquariums from the front rim. The 28" handle is for deep tanks or sumps where you need extra reach without leaning in over the water.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: glass and acrylic tanks of any thickness, using a plastic card blade. Deep tanks and sumps where a shorter tool won't reach the bottom.
Not suitable for: acrylic tanks if the dedicated stainless steel blade is fitted - that blade is for glass only and will scratch acrylic. Use the plastic card blade on acrylic instead.
What's included
The handle ships with its card-slot mechanism ready to take a plastic card blade; you supply the card (an old gift card or hotel key works) or buy the dedicated stainless steel blade separately for glass tanks.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the blade slot after use to stop grit building up and scoring the glass on the next pass. A plastic card blade is disposable and can be swapped whenever it picks up a nick; the stainless steel blade is dual-sided, so flip it for a fresh edge before replacing it.
Goes well with
- Flipper Platinum Scraper Replacement Blade - Stainless Steel - the dedicated glass-only blade for this scraper.
- Flipper Max Float up to 19mm glass - a magnetic cleaner for everyday maintenance, with this scraper in reserve for stubborn spots or thick glass.
Warranty and delivery
Flipper does not publish a separate consumer warranty term for the Platinum Scraper on its Australian-facing materials. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply regardless of any manufacturer terms. This is a light item and ships at standard freight rates; the 28" handle is the longest item in the range and may attract a slightly larger parcel size.
Common questions
Is there a glass thickness limit on the Platinum Scraper?
No. It scrapes the glass directly rather than working through a magnet, so thickness isn't a factor. The only thing to get right is which blade is fitted.
Can I use the stainless steel blade on my acrylic tank?
No. The dedicated stainless steel blade is for glass tanks only and will scratch acrylic. Fit a plastic card blade for acrylic instead.
What can I use as a blade if I don't have the stainless steel one?
Any stiff plastic card - an old gift card, hotel key or membership card - fits the slot and works as a scraper blade on glass or acrylic.
Which length should I buy for a standard 4-foot tank?
The 18" handle covers most standard aquariums comfortably from the front rim. Step up to 28" for deep tanks or sumps where you need more reach.
Is the stainless steel blade sold with the scraper or separately?
Separately. The scraper handle ships ready for a plastic card blade; the stainless steel blade is a separate purchase for glass tanks.
