Flipper Max Float up to 19mm glass
One magnet cleans glass and acrylic tanks up to 19 mm thick. The Flipper Max Float is a floating, 2-in-1 magnetic aquarium cleaner rated for glass or acrylic up to 19 mm (3/4") thick, roughly the wall thickness of a large display tank. It ships with two interchangeable blades - stainless steel for glass, ABS plastic for acrylic - so one unit covers both tank types, and it floats to the surface if the two halves ever separate rather than dropping onto the substrate.
Key features
- Rated to 19 mm (3/4") glass or acrylic - covers most large display tanks; check your actual wall thickness before ordering if you're near the limit.
- Two blades included - stainless steel for glass, ABS plastic for acrylic, so the same cleaner handles either tank type.
- Floats free - orienting buoyancy keeps the magnets facing the glass and brings the inside half to the surface if it comes loose, instead of sinking onto the substrate.
- Rare earth magnets - strong enough to hold through 19 mm of glass while staying easy to slide by hand.
- Flip handle - switches between a scraper blade and a microfibre scrubber pad without swapping the whole unit.
- Replaceable blades - both blade types are sold separately, so the cleaner itself doesn't need replacing when a blade wears out.

Which Flipper cleaner do I need?
| Model | Max glass/acrylic | Glass or acrylic | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flipper Max Float (this product) | 19 mm | Both, two blades included | Large display tanks up to 3/4" glass, and acrylic tanks and sumps |
| Flipper Nano Float | 6 mm | Glass only | Nano and small tanks up to roughly 25 gallons |
If your tank runs thicker than 19 mm - some large custom builds do - a floating magnet isn't rated for it, and a long-handled scraper such as the Flipper Platinum Scraper is the safer choice.
What's included
The cleaner ships with both blades: a stainless steel blade for glass and an ABS plastic blade for acrylic. Nothing else is required to start cleaning; replacement blades for either side are sold separately as they wear.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: glass aquariums up to 19 mm thick, and acrylic aquariums and sumps of any thickness commonly used in the hobby, using the correct blade for each.
Not suitable for: glass thicker than 19 mm, where the magnet may not hold reliably through the pane. Not intended for unsupervised use in tanks with betta, axolotl or fry that could be startled by a moving magnet on the outside pane.
Care and maintenance
Swap the active blade every two to five months of regular use, or sooner if it starts leaving streaks instead of scraping cleanly. Rinse both blades and the magnet housing after use if the tank has been dosed with anything abrasive, and store the unit somewhere it won't pick up grit before its next use.
Goes well with
- Flipper Max ABS Blade for Acrylic Tanks 3pk - replacement acrylic-safe blades for this cleaner.
- Flipper Nano Float up to 6mm glass - a smaller version for a nano tank elsewhere in the house.
- Flipper Platinum Scraper - a long-handled option for glass over 19 mm or for reaching corners a floating magnet can't.
Warranty and delivery
Flipper does not publish a separate consumer warranty term for the Max Float on its Australian-facing materials. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply regardless of any manufacturer terms. This is a compact item that ships at standard freight rates.
Common questions
Will the Flipper Max Float work on my acrylic sump?
Yes, provided you fit the ABS plastic blade rather than the stainless steel one. The stainless blade is for glass only and will scratch acrylic.
What happens if the two halves of the magnet separate?
The inside half is built to float rather than sink, so it rises to the surface where it can be retrieved by hand or with a net, rather than dropping onto the substrate or into decor.
My glass is thicker than 19 mm - what should I use instead?
A floating magnet isn't rated for glass over 19 mm. The Flipper Platinum Scraper is a long-handled, non-magnetic alternative that works at any glass thickness.
Can I use this on a tank with bettas or fry?
You can, but supervise it. A magnet cleaner moves along the outside of the glass and can startle a fish on the inside pane if it isn't expecting it.
How do I know which blade is fitted?
The stainless steel blade is metallic and rigid; the ABS blade is matte plastic. Flip the handle to check which side is facing out before you start on an acrylic surface.
