Suitable for / not suitable for
Suitable for sealing seams and glass joints in freshwater and marine aquarium construction and repair, and for bonding backgrounds, rockwork or decorations once fully cured.
Not suitable for contact with livestock, plants or aquarium water before it is fully cured. Uncured silicone can release fumes and residues harmful to fish and invertebrates, so the tank must not be filled and animals must not be added until the full cure time has passed.
What's included and what you'll need
Each pack contains one 85 g squeeze tube; no cartridge or caulking gun is required. You will also need a blade or the tube cap to pierce the nozzle, a smoothing tool, masking tape for neat lines, and mineral spirits for cleanup.
Application
- Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and free of dust, oil, old silicone and water.
- Pierce the nozzle and apply a smooth, continuous bead to the seam or joint.
- Tool the bead to remove air pockets before it skins over.
- Wipe uncured excess with mineral spirits; once cured, silicone must be cut or scraped away.
- Allow full cure before filling the tank or adding livestock.
Safety
Uncured silicone of this type releases acetic-acid vapour as it cures, with a vinegar-like smell that can irritate eyes, skin and airways. Apply in a well-ventilated area, avoid skin and eye contact, and keep away from children while curing.
Warranty and delivery
This product is backed by Seachem's manufacturer support in addition to the consumer guarantees available under Australian Consumer Law, which apply regardless of any manufacturer terms.
Common questions
How long before I can fill the tank
Allow the full cure time of approximately 24 hours at room temperature before filling the tank with water.
Is it reef safe once cured
Once fully cured, this 100% RTV silicone is non-toxic and safe for freshwater and marine aquariums, including reef systems. It is not safe for livestock contact before it has fully cured.
Can I use it over existing aquarium silicone
Silicone does not bond reliably to old, cured silicone. Old sealant should be cut and scraped away, with the glass cleaned back to bare surface, before applying a fresh bead.
Which colour should I choose
Black is commonly used to hide seams on the external corners of a tank, while clear suits areas where a near-invisible line is wanted, such as viewing panels or glass ornaments.
Do I need a caulking gun
No. The 85 g pack is a squeeze tube designed for hand application, so a cartridge gun is not required.
