Vectra Barb & Screen Kit (Gen 1)
Vectra Gen 1 pumps use a different barb and screen kit to the current S2/M2/L2 range – this is the Gen 1 fitting, for the S1, M1 and L1 pumps. The kit supplies the intake screen and output barb fitting sized for the older-generation Vectra, keeping fish, snails and larger debris out of the impeller chamber while giving you a barbed connection for flexible tubing on the pump output.

Suitable for Vectra S1, M1 and L1 pumps – the original Gen 1 Vectra range. Not suitable for Gen 2 pumps (Vectra S2, M2, L2), which use a different, incompatible barb and screen kit with different fitting sizes.

Care and maintenance
Do I need glue to fit this?
The barbed output fitting needs PVC solvent cement to seat securely on the pump's output collet. The intake screen needs no solvent – it's designed to be pulled directly into the pump's intake.
Which kit do I need for an S1 pump?
The M1 kit – the S1 and M1 share the same input and output size, so one kit covers both.
Compatibility, spares and supersession
Fits Vectra Gen 1 pumps only – S1, M1 and L1. Not interchangeable with the S2/M2/L2 barb and screen kit used on current-generation pumps, which uses different fitting sizes.

Common questions
Will this fit my Vectra S2?
No. Gen 1 (S1/M1/L1) and Gen 2 (S2/M2/L2) Vectra pumps use different, incompatible barb and screen kits – order the kit that matches your pump's generation and size.
Why does the intake need a screen at all?
Without one, anything small enough to reach the intake – fish, snails, shrimp or loose substrate – can be pulled into the impeller chamber and damage the pump.
Can I reuse the old barb fitting instead of gluing on a new one?
Once a PVC-cemented barb fitting is removed it's rarely reusable – this kit replaces it rather than repairs it.
