Vortech MP60 Foam Guards Pack of 2
A guard between curious tank mates and a spinning propeller. This genuine EcoTech Marine pack of two foam guards fits over the VorTech MP60 wet side, covering the propeller while still letting water pass through freely. They're a cheap, quick way to cut the risk of an inquisitive fish, shrimp or coral frag — or your own fingers during a water change — making contact with the impeller.
Key features
- Genuine EcoTech Marine part — the foam guard EcoTech sells specifically for the VorTech MP60 wet side.
- Pack of two — enough for one pump with a spare, or two pumps in the same tank.
- Open-cell foam construction — covers the propeller without materially restricting flow output.
- Tool-free fit — fits over the existing MP60 wet-side housing.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for MP60 and MP60w owners keeping fish, shrimp, snails or fragile coral frags that could bump the propeller, and for anyone who wants an extra buffer during routine tank maintenance. Not a fit for the MP10 or MP40 wet side — those pumps use their own guard sizes. A foam guard reduces contact risk; it doesn't guarantee a small fish or shrimp can never reach the propeller, so it isn't a substitute for sensible pump placement.
What's included
Two foam guards. No wet-side housing, magnets or pump included.
Care and maintenance
How often should these be replaced?
EcoTech doesn't publish a fixed interval. Foam breaks down with prolonged saltwater exposure and UV from tank lighting, so replace a guard once it's compressed, torn or crumbling rather than on a set schedule.
Warranty and delivery
Sold as a genuine EcoTech Marine spare part. Standard delivery Australia-wide.
Common questions
Will a foam guard noticeably reduce my MP60's flow?
The open-cell foam is designed to let water pass through while covering the blades, so the reduction in effective flow is minor rather than something you'd typically need to compensate for.
Do I need these if I don't keep shrimp or fragile inverts?
Plenty of keepers fit them purely to protect fingers during cleaning and maintenance, even in fish-only systems.
Can I use one guard now and keep the second as a spare?
Yes — the pack of two is sized so you can fit one now and keep a spare for when the first wears out, or run guards on two pumps at once.
Goes well with
- Vortech O-Ring for MP60 Wetside — worth checking for wear at the same time.
- Vortech Nozzle for MP60 Wetside — inspect while the wet side is out of the tank.
