Radion G6/G5 Diffuser

Takes the disco spotting out of a Radion without dimming the tank.

The Radion G6/G5 Diffuser is a magnetic lens that clips over the optics of an XR15 or XR30 fixture and blends the individual LED colours into a single even wash. It is EcoTech Marine's answer to the two things reefers dislike about a bare multi-channel LED: harsh colour separation on the sand, and hard-edged caustics. It attaches to magnets already built into the G5 and G6 housing, so there are no tools and nothing to unscrew.

Key features
  • Magnetic, tool-free fitting – mounts to magnets already in the fixture, and lifts straight off again for cleaning.
  • Improved colour mixing – engineered diffuser material with an optimised airspace, which is how EcoTech blends the channels rather than simply frosting the lens.
  • More uniform caustics – the shimmer becomes softer and more even instead of sharply defined.
  • Minimal PAR reduction – EcoTech's stated design goal, so the corals below keep their light.
  • Sized per fixture – separate XR15 and XR30 versions.

What the diffuser does to your PAR

Any diffuser costs some light. EcoTech is open about the trade-off and describes it as a small cost to PAR and a minimal reduction, but it does not publish a percentage or a PAR-at-depth comparison for the diffused fixture.

We will not invent one. If you are running corals at the top of their light tolerance and the margin matters, take a PAR reading before and after fitting the diffuser rather than relying on any published figure. In practice most reefers fit a diffuser and nudge the intensity up slightly in the controller to compensate.

Will it fit my Radion?

This is the one place where getting the generation wrong wastes money, so check the fixture before ordering.

This diffuser fits Radion G5 and G6 fixtures only. EcoTech states plainly that the G5 diffuser is compatible only with G5-series Radions, and separately confirms that the same G5 diffuser works on the G6.

It will not fit a Radion G1, G2, G3 or G4. Those generations use a completely different diffuser – a three-piece reflector, magnetic plate and film assembly that requires unscrewing the lens frame – sold as our Radion G1-G4 Diffuser. The two are not interchangeable in either direction.

EcoTech's published compatibility for the G5 versions names the Pro and Blue models. Freshwater FW variants are not named in that list, so if you run an FW fixture, check with us first.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for:

  • Radion XR15 and XR30 fixtures in G5 or G6
  • Open-top and rimless tanks where the fixture is in your eyeline
  • Shallow tanks where colour separation on the sand bed is obvious
  • Multi-fixture setups where you want the overlap between lights to blend

Not suitable for:

  • Radion G4 and earlier – use the G1-G4 diffuser instead
  • Anyone chasing maximum PAR at depth, since a diffuser can only ever cost light, not add it
  • Non-Radion fixtures
  • Reefers who actively want tight, hard shimmer, which is exactly what this removes
Care and maintenance

The magnetic mount exists so the diffuser can come off easily, which matters because it sits directly in the salt spray. Lift it off, rinse it in fresh water, dry it and put it back whenever the light starts to look hazy.

Do not scrub a dried salt film off dry – soak it first. Scratches on a diffuser scatter light in ways the engineering was designed to control.

Goes well with
Warranty and delivery

EcoTech Marine warrants its products for 12 months from the date of original purchase, and requires registration within 30 days of purchase for that term to take effect. Saltwater spray damage, misuse and cosmetic wear are excluded.

This applies in addition to the consumer guarantees you have under Australian Consumer Law, which cannot be excluded by a manufacturer's warranty. Warranty service outside the United States goes through the local distributor, so Australian claims come back through us.

Ships as a standard parcel.

Common questions

Will the G5 diffuser fit a Radion G6?

Yes. EcoTech confirms the Radion G5 diffuser works on the Radion G6, which is why this part is listed for both generations.

Will it fit my Radion G4?

No. EcoTech states the G5 diffuser is compatible only with G5-series Radions. The G1 to G4 fixtures take a different, three-piece diffuser that installs by removing the lens frame, and the two designs are not interchangeable.

How much PAR does the diffuser cost me?

EcoTech describes it as a minimal reduction and a small cost to PAR, but publishes no number for it. If your corals are near their light limit, measure with a PAR meter before and after rather than relying on an estimate.

How does it attach?

Magnetically, to magnets already built into the G5 and G6 housing. It fits over the existing optics with no tools, no screws and no disassembly, and lifts off for cleaning.

Do I need one diffuser per light?

Yes. Each diffuser covers one fixture, so a tank running two XR30s needs two XR30 diffusers.

Does it change the coverage area?

EcoTech describes the effect qualitatively – more even light and softer caustics – but publishes no revised coverage or beam angle figure for a diffused fixture, so we cannot give you a number for it.
