Aqua Medic Ozone Booster - Air Dryer

Damp air is the main reason an ozone generator underperforms. The Aqua Medic Ozone Booster is an in-line air dryer: air is drawn through a chamber of silica gel desiccant before it reaches your ozone generator, so the generator is fed dry air instead of the humid air already in your fish room. Ozone output drops sharply when the feed air is humid, so this sits between your air source and the generator on every serious ozone setup, not just the largest ones.

Key features
  • 1 L silica gel chamber — pre-filled, ready to plumb straight into your air line.
  • 4/6 mm push-fit connection — matches the tubing used on Aqua Medic ozone generators and most other brands.
  • In-line, no power required — sits passively between your air source and the generator; nothing to wire in.
  • Compatible beyond the Aqua Medic range — works with most ozone generators that use standard 4/6 mm airline tubing.
Specifications
Dimensions approx. 240 mm long x 80 mm diameter
Media 1 L silica gel desiccant, pre-filled
Hose connection 4/6 mm push-fit
Power required none — passive in-line unit
What's included
  • Air dryer chamber
  • 1 L silica gel desiccant, already loaded
Not included
  • Ozone generator
  • Air pump or air line
Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: any ozone setup, freshwater or marine, where the air feeding the generator isn't already bone-dry — which in a humid fish room is nearly always.
  • Not suitable for: use as a stand-alone air dryer disconnected from an ozone generator; it's sized and priced for this specific job.
Care and maintenance

The silica gel absorbs moisture from the air passing through it and will eventually reach capacity. If your ozone generator's output seems to be dropping and the air feeding it is humid, that's the first thing to check. If you're not sure whether the desiccant in yours still has life left in it, get in touch and we'll help you work out whether it needs a refill.

Safety

This unit dries air only — it doesn't generate or handle ozone itself. Ozone is a lung and gill irritant at working concentrations, so always run your ozone generator into a reactor or skimmer, feed the treated water back through activated carbon before it reaches the display, and use a redox controller to stop the generator if redox climbs too high. See the Aqua Medic Ozone Generator listing for full setup guidance.

Common questions

Do I actually need this, or can I run the ozone generator straight off my air pump?

You can run it without a dryer, but humid air feeding the generator reduces ozone output — sometimes significantly, depending on how humid your fish room air is. This chamber removes that variable.

How do I know when the silica gel needs replacing?

Watch your ozone generator's effect on redox and water clarity — a generator that used to hold redox up and has stopped doing so, with everything else unchanged, is worth checking. Contact us if you'd like help diagnosing it.

Will this fit an ozone generator from another brand?

Most likely, if it uses standard 4/6 mm push-fit airline tubing, which covers the majority of hobby ozone generators. Check your generator's hose connection size before ordering if you're not running an Aqua Medic unit.
