Flipper Nano Float up to 6mm glass
A pocket-sized magnet built for nano tanks up to 6 mm glass. The Flipper Nano Float is a floating magnetic algae cleaner sized for nano and small aquariums, working through glass up to 6 mm (1/4") thick - roughly the glass on tanks up to about 95 litres (25 US gallons). It comes with a stainless steel blade for glass only; it is not rated for acrylic.
Key features
- Rated to 6 mm (1/4") glass - matched to the thinner glass typical of nano and small tanks.
- Compact size - at roughly 9.7 x 4.8 x 2.5 cm it fits in tight nano aquascapes where a full-size cleaner can't manoeuvre.
- Floats free - orienting buoyancy keeps the magnets facing the glass and brings the inside half to the surface if it comes loose.
- Rare earth magnets - strong enough to hold a clean line through 6 mm of glass while staying light enough for delicate tanks.
- Stainless steel blade included - for glass only; the blade is sold separately as a spare when it wears.

Which Flipper cleaner do I need?
| Model | Max glass/acrylic | Glass or acrylic | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flipper Nano Float (this product) | 6 mm | Glass only | Nano and small tanks up to roughly 25 US gallons |
| Flipper Max Float | 19 mm | Both, two blades included | Large display tanks up to 3/4" glass, and acrylic tanks and sumps |
If the tank is acrylic, or the glass is thicker than 6 mm, this cleaner is the wrong size - step up to the Flipper Max Float instead.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: nano and small glass aquariums up to roughly 95 litres, where a full-size magnet cleaner is too bulky to work between rockwork and glass.
Not suitable for: acrylic tanks of any thickness, and glass over 6 mm. Not intended for unsupervised use in tanks with shrimp, fry or bettas that could be startled by a moving magnet on the outside pane.
Care and maintenance
Flipper recommends replacing the blade every three to six months of regular use. Rinse the blade and magnet housing after use, and store it away from grit so it doesn't scratch the glass on its next pass.
Goes well with
- Flipper Max Float up to 19mm glass - for a larger tank, or one with acrylic panels.
- Flipper Platinum Scraper - a long-handled option for reaching corners a floating magnet can't.
Warranty and delivery
Flipper does not publish a separate consumer warranty term for the Nano Float on its Australian-facing materials. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply regardless of any manufacturer terms. This is a small, light item and ships at standard freight rates.
Common questions
Will the Nano Float work on my acrylic nano tank?
No. It ships with a stainless steel blade rated for glass only, and using it on acrylic will scratch the surface. Choose the Flipper Max Float, which includes an acrylic-safe blade, instead.
What tank size is this suited to?
Roughly up to 95 litres (25 US gallons), which is where nano tank glass typically stays at or under 6 mm. Check your actual glass thickness if your tank is on the larger end of that range.
What happens if the magnet comes apart while cleaning?
The inside half floats to the surface rather than sinking onto the substrate, so it's easy to retrieve by hand or with a net.
How often does the blade need replacing?
Every three to six months of regular use is the manufacturer's guide. Replace sooner if it starts leaving streaks instead of a clean scrape.
Is this safe to use around shrimp?
Use it with care. A magnet moving along the glass can startle shrimp or fry nearby, so supervise the first few passes in a shrimp tank.
