Fluval 06/07 Ceramic Impeller Shaft with Rubber Bushing
Stops the rattle and restores the flow your canister has lost.
The Fluval impeller shaft and bushing, genuine part A20039, is the ceramic spindle and rubber seat the magnetic impeller spins on inside the motor head. One shaft and one bushing cover all eight 06 and 07 Series canisters – the 106, 206, 306 and 406, and the 107, 207, 307 and 407. It is the cheapest component in the pump and almost always the first to wear.
Key features
- Genuine Fluval A20039 – factory-specified, so the impeller sits at the correct height and keeps its clearance in the impeller well.
- Ceramic shaft – resists the scoring that turns a smooth impeller into a noisy one, and will not corrode in saltwater.
- Bushing supplied with it – the bushing damps vibration. Replace the shaft alone and the noise usually comes back.
- One part, two generations – a spare still fits if you move from an 06 canister to its 07 replacement.

Not included
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for an 06 or 07 canister that has turned grindy or rattly after a service; a filter whose output has dropped with clean media and clear hoses; and marine systems, since ceramic does not rust.
Not suitable for Fluval 04 and 05 Series canisters, FX Series canisters, U Series internals or AquaClear hang-ons. It is also not a fix for a leaking motor head – that is the gasket, not the shaft.
Care and maintenance
Check the shaft whenever the motor head is apart. Roll it on a flat surface: a shaft that wobbles is bent and will not run quietly again. Look for a polished band or visible groove where the impeller rides. Rinse in tank water, never under a hot tap, and refit the bushing before the shaft – it will not seat properly the other way around.
Goes well with
- Motor head gasket O-ring – the other part worth renewing while the head is open
- 07 Series primer assembly – restores one-touch priming after a rebuild
- Media basket cover for the 107 and 207 – stops media riding up into the head
Warranty and delivery
Supplied as a genuine Fluval replacement part. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply in full and nothing here limits them. No separate manufacturer warranty term is quoted on wear items like impeller shafts. Ships as a standard small parcel anywhere in Australia.
Common questions
Does the Fluval A20039 shaft fit both the 06 and the 07 canisters?
Yes. Fluval lists A20039 against the 106, 206, 306 and 406, and against the 107, 207, 307 and 407. The same shaft and bushing serve all eight filters.
My canister is noisy after cleaning. Is the shaft the cause?
Most often, yes. Check the impeller cover is clipped fully home, the impeller is seated rather than sitting proud, and the shaft for grooving or a bend. A worn shaft lets the impeller move sideways, which is what makes the grinding sound.
Do I get the impeller with this part?
No. This is the shaft and its rubber bushing only. The magnetic impeller is a separate Fluval part and differs between the 107/207, the 307 and the 407.
How do I know if the shaft is bent rather than just worn?
Roll it across a flat bench. A straight shaft rolls smoothly; a bent one clicks or lifts at one end. A bent shaft cannot be straightened and will chew through a new impeller.
